October 26th, 2015:
Let me open your world to a night of good eats and a relatively cheap bill (relatively, only because the usual spend here on a normal night can get quite hefty).
On most Monday’s, you can get all you can eat tacos at Lolita for only $9 a person plus the purchase of a cocktail. (Good thing their cocktails are TO DIE FOR). It’s okay if you aren’t a tequila person, because frankly, I hate tequila and I love their cocktails. They have a wide selection of drinks that don’t have tequila in them including my all time favorite, Strawberry Basil Mojito. A must try!
When you first walk in, the first thing you notice is the ambiance. Lolita’s has a vampy, underground feel to it with dim red lighting and overall absence of light. On the walls are Day of the Dead paintings that seal in the dark, mysterious loom.
The hostess guides us to our table and I was pleasantly surprised with the set up of it. It was definitely prettier than I anticipated, or maybe I’m just a sucker for roses.
We were welcomed by our waitress shortly after and she brought over complimentary grapefruit ice shaving that is meant to cleanse the palette. They also offered a free shot of tequila that they would pour on top of it (talk about icing on the cake). All of this sat on a bed of dry ice that smoked around this sorbet as you enjoyed your free delight.
After the waitress took our order of tacos, she served us our drinks. I had the Strawberry Basil Mojito (of course) and Dan had the Diablo [lunazul rep, combier, serrano chiles, blood oranges, pineapple & strawberries]. They were everything we hoped them to be.
The Strawberry Mojito was extremely refreshing with its cool cucumbers and slightly sparkling taste. It also had all the right notes of sweetness without it being overbearing. The Diablo was tangy with a bit of spice to it, which surprisingly really complimented each other.
Finally our food came! This was the most exciting part. I have been to Lolita’s before but I’ve long waited to be able to finally experience their all you can eat Taco nights. I had made reservations for this weeks prior to ensure that there was a slot for us.
It did not disappoint. You get complimentary lightly salted nachos with your meal along with three different salsas for us to try. There was a traditional red salsa, a green tomatillo salsa, and a spicy aioli type of salsa.
My favorite was the traditional red and it made a great sauce to top your tacos off with. If these three salsas weren’t spicy enough for you, they also gave you a bottle of mango habanero sauce. Definitely worth adding to your tacos, it really gave me the kick I wanted.
For the tacos, you get a choice of chicken/beef and either soft shells/hard shells. We opted for combo on both fronts (just because we love to eat).
All in all I would definitely do it again. It’s quality food for an affordable price, plus who goes to dinner and doesn’t order a drink anyway?
Oh, and before I forget, they topped it off with ANOTHER complimentary item. Free dessert! We got a huge heaping of green apple cotton candy topped with pop rocks. The perfect way to end a night, bringing me back to the good old childhood days.
Until next time, foodies! Thank you for reading, Liv.
